Circular Economy - Recycling

The traditional linear production model is based on the logic of “raw material supply – production – use – disposal.” Although it has long dominated global manufacturing, this model now places significant pressure on the environment and natural resources.

As every product inevitably reaches the end of its life cycle, the linear model is increasingly considered unsustainable.

Growing concerns about resource depletion, environmental degradation, and the need for sustainable development make the circular economy the natural and necessary evolution.

In simple terms, the circular economy aims to extend the life of products and maximize the use of resources through:

• reduction

• reuse

• recycling

• recovery of materials, energy, and waste

It is a modern and reliable model of sustainable development, offering substantial benefits for society, the economy, and the environment — and it is a core pillar of VIOMES’ sustainability strategy.

Recycling

Recycling is the process of converting waste into usable raw materials.

Its benefits are substantial and multifaceted:

• Reduction of waste

• Energy savings

• Decreased pollution (air, soil, sea, groundwater)

• Improved quality of life

• Job creation

• Promotion of sustainability

Our Commitment to the Circular Economy

At VIOMES, we have been applying the principles of the circular economy for many years, integrating recycled raw materials into our production.

Use of Recycled Materials — Key Figures:

• In 2018, recycled raw materials accounted for 10–12% of our total usage.

• In 2019, this percentage increased to 15%.

• For 2020, the target was to reach — or exceed — 20%, with a significant share coming from PCR (PostConsumer Recycled) materials.

Using recycled raw materials is an important part of our strategy to reduce our environmental footprint.

However, when it comes to products intended for direct food contact, consumer safety remains our absolute priority.

For that reason:

• We never use recycled raw materials in products intended for food use.

We use only primary, certified raw materials that meet all safety requirements and international standards.

• This choice ensures that our products meet the highest hygiene and safety specifications — with no compromise in quality, durability, or functionality.

• In all other product categories, we integrate recycled raw materials in ways that do not affect the mechanical, quality, or aesthetic characteristics of our products.

Our expertise allows us to use recycled materials without compromise.

The global technology for producing foodgrade recycled plastics (foodgrade PCR) is still in an early stage.

VIOMES closely monitors developments in PCR materials suitable for food contact and will be among the first companies to integrate such materials into foodrelated products once international standards permit it with absolute safety.

Until then, we remain fully committed to uncompromising consumer protection, using only primary raw materials for all foodcontact containers and utensils.
